As of late, the bad seems to outweight the good in the player base. Whether it’s the usual trade channel, random dungeons, or random battlegrounds, it seems to be more prominent now. Perhaps it was always there, but exposure was reduced because of the fact you used to be limited to what existed on your own server. But now, it’s out there. It’s out there in spades.
However, every once in a while I get a glimmer of hope as another player impresses me with how they carry themselves or with certain actions. No, the guy wearing BoA’s in Warsong Gulch was not one of them. He of the level 15, complaining that everyone else sucked while he farmed honor instead of ever going for (or getting back) a flag. No, in this case it was an OS25 run put together by a friend of mine. I saw him advertising in trade and decided to go along. We had ten or so, but the dps was a bit weak and we wiped. So he went to Stormwind and got us more. Well, someone started the fight while this guy was in Stormwind. We ended up downing the drake, and unfortunately the person who organized the raid didn’t get credit with the kill, nor did he get to roll on the mount. He was much better about it than I was.
So, those of us who did the fight rolled on the loot. We all chose need for the mount, the Dragonhide bag, and the spoils and let the chips fall where they may. Mage won the Dragonhide bag. Then the Mage won the Spoils. Finally, the Mage won the Drake. That’s right, the same person won all three items (it took an in-game re-roll to beat me for the Drake mind you). I know this person. They literally never win anything. They can go out and kill one whelp and get a hatchling, but when it comes to instances and whatnot they just can’t buy a break. Despite this person winning all three things, I never said a word. Turns out, I didn’t have to.
Despite being in a group with complete strangers aside from me, including one or two they had no use for, the first words after winning the mount were “I’m giving the other items to the next highest rollers.” I smiled inside. No one complained for it to happen, or whined when this Mage won all three items. Still, they did what I consider the right thing at the expense of one’s own greed. Let’s face it, there’s plenty of people in the game who wouldn’t do the same. But, I should know better in this case because my wife? She’s that awesome. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not praising her because she’s my wife (though I do also do that), I’m applauding being a good player, and would still be writing this post if it was one of the other raid members that did the same thing. It’s the kind of player recount and gearscore can’t show you. The kind that make things worthwhile.
Congrats again on your mount Taelainne.

…I has a Twilight Drake
And for the record, I think the first words I uttered, were “HOLY CRAP I WON THE MOUNT! …AND THE SPOILS! …AND THE BAG!!!! HOLY CRAP!”
congrats carla*hug*

That was such a great story even before I knew it was your wife! The RNG gods finally rewarded a nice player, wish it could become a trend!
Tell her grats on that Drake!
