Mog Madness Is Here!

Based on a little known event that gets underway today, the minds of yours truly and Effraeti’s RP are proud to bring you their own version of the Madness!  Joining in on the fun as well is none other than Tome herself (who took Effraeit’s excellent Transmog of Michigan State’s Sparty and created our amazing logos).

Tome, Effraeti, and Kenada respectively.

Now unlike the NCAA, we’re not going to take 64 of you and pit you against one another in one on one matchups.  We like to keep things simple around here, so here’s how were going to do it:

  • Mog Madness will consist of five rounds.
  • The first round will be two weeks, with the remaining four rounds one week each.
  • There will be a “Mog build” criteria for each round that will be announced at the start of each round.
  • Each participant is allowed one entry per round.
  • Your submission can be an in-game screenshot, or a shot from a program such as MogIt.
  • The judges will look at overall thoughts, creativity, and originality to give each entry a score, and the top scores will move on each round until the finals.
  • The number of participants to advance will be announced after the deadline for the first round, at which point we’ll know how many people we have taking part.

Mog Madness Round One:

  • When: March 12th – March 23rd (judging results revealed March 25th)
  • Who: Open to anyone who wishes to enter.
  • How: Send an e-mail with your screenshot(s) to arcanewordsmith@gmail.com or post your entry on the Mog Madness page of Amateur Azerothian, Tome of the Ancients, or Effraeti’s RP.
  • Mog Requirement: The first round of Mog Madness merely requires a cloth outfit.  That means Mages, Warlocks, and Priests are all open season for your submissions (though no using class-specific gear outside of the class you choose to use -so no Mages in something like this).

There are the rules.  Pretty straight forward, and pretty exciting too!  The only other detail to note in the first round is the “Judge’s Choice.”  For the first round only, each judge can use their power to give someone a pass into the second round.  Those lucky persons will be exempt from the voting process and move on no questions asked…though each judge will give a brief snippet explaining why they chose the entry they did.

There you have it.  If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.  Otherwise, regardless of your level of transmogrification we welcome you with open arms and outfits.  Good luck to all and let the Madness begin!

      Woo, woo, woo!

Awesome. I do have one question. Is it one single outfit or can you show a few acessories such as 2-3 capes that would match?

    • JD Kenada March 12, 2012 / 7:18 am

That’s an excellent question! In all honesty, For the purpose of the contest, the “outfit” is the sum of all parts. In other words, you’ll have to select the best cape/hood/wand/etc that compliments the overall look you’re wanting to achieve.

Linking to this post is as good as posting the picture here. 🙂

The important thing is that it’s easy for us judges to find.

Oh, my… that green outfit is really something.

I’m definitely IN for this, but it’ll be a bit before I get an entry for the first round together. When I do, it’ll go up on my blog with a link back to this post 🙂

    • JD Kenada March 12, 2012 / 10:42 am

No worries at all. We made the first round two weeks specifically to allow people more time to enter.

    Need clarification:
“though no using class-specific gear outside of the class you choose to use -so no Mages in something like this).”

So – you’re saying, if I am a mage, I can’t wear healing gear? Thanks for being patient with the noob over here.

And, we get our submissions to you during that window, si?

For someone who lives and dies by the “follow the directions sword,” I really have a lot of dumb questions. And yes, there are such thing as dumb questions.

    Fun!

I think they mean that if your character’s class is Warlock, you should not use items that are specifically Priest or Mage Tier/PvP gear in your outfit — and likewise for the other classes. I think that using an item with healing-slanted stats is probably okay as long as it is not Priest Tier/PvP gear. I could be wrong, though 😛

        This.

I’m deleting my much more winded post now…

        • Matty March 12, 2012 / 5:34 pm

So Navi is right? I know I’ve come across mail gear that says “hunter,” so for example I was trying to put that on my shaman that would be a no-no? See? Dumb questions.

          • JD Kenada March 14, 2012 / 7:20 pm

Not a dumb question at all, and indeed that would be correct.

  4. Matty March 12, 2012 / 8:55 pm

    *Sorry, meant Kamalia…

    • JD Kenada March 13, 2012 / 4:30 am

      Either way, you’re correct. 😉

  5. Navimie March 13, 2012 / 2:19 am

I am honoured to be mistaken for Kamalia. If only I could be that mog-cool!

So am I allowed to enter on my leather wearing druid, and wear cloth? Or do I have to be a cloth wearer?

    • JD Kenada March 13, 2012 / 4:31 am

Your gear type must match the main armor type of the class at end game. So sexy Druids in sexy Leather, Warriors in Plate, etc.

    • Cymre March 14, 2012 / 7:06 pm

Grats on the feature you 3 🙂 Let’s see how many new entries this gives…

      • JD Kenada March 14, 2012 / 7:12 pm

Thanks Cymre. Indeed, hoping this results in even more entries (afraid to check my blog e-mail now, lol).

As for twitter…I dunna “tweet,” and I dunna “farcebook” and mah space is just that… 😉

I’ve never gotten the wowhead coding to be honest, so don’t feel bad at all. So long as we know what you used, that’s good enough.

      Thanks for entering!

      • Töki March 22, 2012 / 10:06 pm

All you need to do is add “” without the quotation marks somewhere in the HTML code of your site (but I’m not sure how it works with wordpress/where to find it) and wowhead tooltips will show up. :>

        • Effraeti March 22, 2012 / 10:08 pm

Yah, I have read through that little guide too, and I am also still having issues on my WordPress blog with the WoWhead links. So either we are all misunderstanding it, or it is a WordPress issue. hehe

Silly me, luckily I included the link.

The more the merrier! Thanks, Karegina!

      Sweet!

Tell your hubby to toss his Transmog butt of awesomeness in as well.

  6. PallyDog March 25, 2012 / 3:54 am

ARRG!! Just discovered this! So if you miss the first round can you still play and join the other four? Of course I’ve been without power and internet all week…./grumbles dumb snow storm.

    • JD Kenada March 25, 2012 / 6:36 am

Sorry PallyDog, but Mog Madness is a play on “March Madness,” and as such it’s an elimination game. Based on the success, though, I wouldn’t rule out an encore at some point!

      • PallyDog March 25, 2012 / 3:27 pm

Hey, I’ll be newsing this on the WoW Vault. I’d also love some any future heads up for events such as these in the future. What’s the best way to get in touch? I was unable to find a contact option.

        • JD Kenada March 25, 2012 / 5:12 pm

arcanewordsmith@gmail.com or simply keep an eye on blogs like this one and some of the folks who’ve taken part. I can’t not confirm there may or may not be something at some other point this year maybe.
