Laid Back Raids: Adjusting On The Fly

Last night was once again time for a Laid Back Raid.  The plan was Serpentshrine Cavern, from the Horde side.  Unfortunately, as of raid time, we only had four people.  So Navimie and I did Lord Ahune and I decided we’d flip and go after Lady Vashj on Alliance as at least two guildmates were going to be on a short time later.  Sure enough, they popped on.  Then Shoryl, her partner, and two more friends.  Mavgret was back again this week, so we were rocking a pretty full house.  The naga didn’t stand a chance.

Well, that wasn’t entirely true.  Leotheras The Blind still packs a pretty solid punch if you’re unaware of it as a healer.  Also, we wiped on Fathom Lord Karathress as he and his cronies got pulled along with some trash.  Unfortunately, much of our group didn’t realize he was a boss and we proceeded to get whomped.  Other than that, smooth sailing.  A few nice gear pieces again, though Shoryl wasn’t rewarded with any of the green plate she was looking for.

Despite starting late, it was still early, so I proposed Magtheridon’s Lair.  A proverbial “quickie” in the world of old raids.  Navimie had left after Lady Vashj and Mavgret had to go now as well, but we still had plenty for Mags.  A quick side story, if I may.  We ran this on Horde side last month with myself, Kamalia, Mrs. Amateur, and I believe one other person.  We decided to basically just zerg Mags.  It was chaotic because we hadn’t killed all the channelers and thus they were summoning Fel Elementals like crazy.  But it was a great deal of fun.  I mention that, because with eight of us (and higher levels, and subsequently more powerful) we had nothing to worry about.  I believe my exact words were, “Just step inside the gate, and we’ll…oh crap.”

It ended up being four of us inside once again.  Shoryl had done the proper thing and engaged the nearest channeler with Avenger Shield…but we hadn’t all come in yet.  So it was her and I, Killthryn and I believe Violetkitty (formerly Phinkbunny for those keeping tabs).  Yup, exact same scenario as the last time we visited the lair, only as I say we were more powerful.  So, it did seem as daunting and success was had.  I even got the head.  What made it even more worthwhile, though, was that he dropped the Crystalheart Pulse-Staff.  There was plenty of rolling on that, though in the end I believe Violetkitty snagged it.

While it would have been just as fun to run Serpentshrine on the Horde side (I know Kamalia and Mrs. Amateur both need some Transmog gear from there), we certainly salvaged the night quite nicely, and had a hoot in the process.  A special thanks to Morai (no mount fights this time!) and Delvian for joining us,the latter being our “newbie” raider in what I referred to as Arkham Asylum.  As I say, new faces joining us is always exciting.  Unfortunately, we didn’t take a picture after we took down Lady Vashj so we’re missing Nav’s mage and Mavgret…and looking now I think the various pets consumed Moira:

I would also like to thank the Wolvar pup for continuing the tradition of someone always mooning the cameraman.

This weekend coming up, the raid is on Saturday night.  We’re headed for the Argent Tournament on Alliance side.  I’m also scheduling Serpentshrine Cavern again, Horde side, but for Sunday morning…about 9:00a EST.  I don’t know if that time of day will work for people, but I thought I would try.
