Transmogolympics

Before you even ask, yes this spawned directly from Mog Madness and its success.  With the London Olympics soon to begin,  I thought why not have a little olympics of our own in the Transmog community?  Due to the nature of the contest, I’m giving a lengthy deadline to submit your entries, July 31st.  To participate in the event, you’re required to make TEN outfits.

The first outfit will be for your country.  Well, in this case it’s your faction and you are creating your “flagbearer”.  Upon confirming your entry, I will randomly assign you the faction you’re representing for the games (because “Earthen Ring” looks better in the standings than “JD Kenada”).  So if you receive Sporeggar, your flagbearer’s outfit would include their tabard.  Let me clarify, though, this is the only outfit where you’re required to use the colours of your faction.  This is also for appearance only, there’s no medal for this portion of the Mogolympics.  The main reason is some will have an easier time than others because of tabard diversity.  The nine actual medal events are as follows:

  • Archery – Build an outfit around your favourite bow.
  • Cycling – Build a biker outfit to compliment the Chopper.  It must be either Leather or Mail.
  • Discus – Build an outfit around one of the shield skins seen here
  • Equestrian – Build an outfit to compliment one of the horse mounts in the game.  (Faction limitations apply, so no Orcs on a Stormwind pony)
  • Fencing – Time for some swordplay.  Build your best outfit around the 1h sword of your choice.
  • Javelin – Build an outfit around the polearm of your choice.
  • Hammer Throw – Build an outfit around your favourite two-handed hammer.
  • Wrestling – We’re going to deviate from olympic wrestling and go to the sports entertainment aspect instead.  Using one of the “championship” belts, design your own Azerothian pro wrestler.  Think of the oversized belts, such as the Firemend Cinch seen here.
  • Freestyle – Build your own NPC. Could be an innkeeper, could be the Green Orc Lantern.  Doesn’t matter.

Those are the events, so what are the details you ask?

  • There is NO limit on the number of participants.
  • 9 competition outfits.  At least 5 different races must be used, never repeating the same gender/race combo (if you use Blood Elf Male for Javelin, you can’t make a Blood Elf Male for Discus.  You could however make it female so long as you aren’t submitting a Blood Elf Female in any other event).  Your flagbearer combo may be used in a competition event.
  • Your event entry must be able to use the outfit as a proper end-game transmog (so no Gnomes in Shaman gear or Goblin Rogues entering the discus)
  • Include the gear you used for each outfit please (the judges can peg many articles from in-game, but can’t always tell what everything is).
  • All entries are to be submitted at once.  Send the screenshots to arcanewordsmith@gmail.com
  • As per Mog Madness, MogIt and ModelViewer entries are welcome.
  • We’ll reveal three events a week for three weeks, beginning August 12th.  Medals will be handed out accordingly.
  • I have set no criteria for fellow judges (still confirming who the official judges will be).  They will simply give their rankings based on their own thoughts.  However, they’ll not know who they’re voting on (it will be labelled as Outfit D, rather than “Tome,” for example).
  • The winner will have received the most medals in the nine events.

A page has been added to the sub-header bar so you can easily find the latest information at any time without having to search for it.  If you have any questions, feel free to ask.  Otherwise, let the games begin!

**clarification**

In terms of entering and the flagbearer, simply post that you want to enter (or e-mail me).  I will tell you your faction (after essentially drawing it from a hat) that you will be representing and you’ll create your flagbearer, which you will send in as part of your entry.

**note**

There are 86 factions in WoW (according to WoWhead), however the ones with tabards are just a few more than 50.  If there end up being more competitors than tabards, factions may end up with more than one representative.  Each competitor is still to submit their own flagbearer.

**note the second**

I have rescinded the request that flag bearers not be posted on your blog.  A couple of people had already done so before I added the addendum and as such I am simply removing it.  As I mentioned to Kamalia, the countries tend to show off their gear prior to the Games anyway.  I apologize to those briefly inconvenienced.

For one brief moment I thought I had to have 5 DIFFERENT Toons but when I reread it I realised I can use mogit YAY! OMG, how exciting and interesting! This is a fantastic mog competition JD, and I can’t wait to get started on it!

    Ok here are my questions…
    1) if you’re judging does that mean you can’t enter? Surely you can enter right, since it’s “outfit D”. Except for you of course since u will know who they all are.
    2) is it ok to use all horde or alliance? I am assuming so, unless you want some kind of “peace” to be at these games and thus we have to use both factions?

It sounds so awesome, and this time I’m going to get to play!

    • JD Kenada June 30, 2012 / 10:53 am

You can mix and match Horde/Alliance, yes.

I considered allowing judges once upon a time, and they simply wouldn’t vote on their own outfit, but I would feel kinda bad if a judge won an event. It might create skepticism and I don’t want that.

  2. missescake June 30, 2012 / 11:06 am

Count me in. Or am I supposed to do like, a Gnomeregan Exiles flagbearer first to be included? That was the only part I was confused about. (And maybe it’s just me, worked all night and haven’t slept yet.)

    • Erinys June 30, 2012 / 11:09 am

This is the bit I’m slightly confused about. Do we express interest and then get given a faction at random by you and then submit all 10 entries?

      • JD Kenada June 30, 2012 / 11:19 am

Clarifying in the post now. 🙂

    • JD Kenada June 30, 2012 / 11:18 am

Nope, you’re now entered. Random draw has resulted in Honor Hold as the faction you’ll be representing (and flagbearing).

  3. Erinys June 30, 2012 / 12:04 pm

    Count me in also!

    • JD Kenada June 30, 2012 / 12:25 pm

      Excellent!

Do the Kirin Tor proud. 🙂

  4. kamalia June 30, 2012 / 12:16 pm

I’ve been anxiously waiting all week to see what this was going to be, and it sounds like tremendous fun! Your event ideas are all so clever 😀 Count me in!

    • JD Kenada June 30, 2012 / 12:27 pm

Glad to have you on board 😉

Hopefully you’ll bring home a medal or two for Silvermoon City!

  5. Carla Doak June 30, 2012 / 1:10 pm

…aiight. I’m entering. Bring it on.

    • JD Kenada June 30, 2012 / 1:16 pm

Feel free to click on the Sporeggar Tabard link and do them proud. 🙂

        • JD Kenada June 30, 2012 / 2:02 pm

That made me laugh so hard.

  6. Shoryl June 30, 2012 / 1:52 pm

I gotta at least try this one! (Since Mog Madness was what got me interested in mogging in the first place!)

    • JD Kenada June 30, 2012 / 2:05 pm

Gurdrid should be more than happy that you’re representing the Stormpike!

  7. Ishtla June 30, 2012 / 3:40 pm

This sounds like fun. Sign me up!

    • JD Kenada June 30, 2012 / 3:43 pm

Welcome to the events Ishtla, and you’ll be representing the Darkspear!

      🙂

  8. Karegina June 30, 2012 / 5:57 pm

Me me me!! Also, husband wants to do it too. So two from this household 😀

    • JD Kenada June 30, 2012 / 9:03 pm

As I mentioned in his e-mail (saw it before this), he drew the Sunreavers.

You’re going to have to give your Druid friends of the Alliance some love (at least with the Flagbearer) as you will represent Darnassus!

  9. Cymre June 30, 2012 / 9:10 pm

What an intriguing contest. Great idea JD!

I used to have a PC game in the 70’s or 80’s called Olympic decathlon. Good times, Good times. Looks like you have a lot of interest for this. Should be interesting 🙂

    • JD Kenada June 30, 2012 / 9:24 pm

This mean I can count you in as well?

      • Cymre June 30, 2012 / 10:04 pm

        sure, why not 🙂

        • JD Kenada June 30, 2012 / 10:13 pm

RNG says “do Ramkahen proud.” 😉

  10. Tyledres July 1, 2012 / 10:29 am

I would like to give this a try as well.

    • JD Kenada July 1, 2012 / 10:45 am

Thanks for signing up! The Bilgewater Cartel are offering a substantial amount of black market gold to do them proud. 🙂

  11. tomeoftheancient July 1, 2012 / 1:36 pm

Can’t wait to see these outfits, wrestlers ought to be good!

  12. kamalia July 1, 2012 / 2:30 pm

I have a bit of a nitpicky question about the “proper end-game transmog” requirement. You use “no Goblin Rogues in the Discus” as an example, but is what you really mean “no leather outfits for the Discus because no end-game leather-wearing classes can use shields” and “no cloth outfits for the Javelin because no end-game cloth-wearing classes can use polearms” and so forth?

Or do the character classes of my models actually have to line up with what they’re wearing?

For example, my Flagbearer is in leather, but his character class is Hunter, so he’d actually be wearing mail at end-game. If the Flagbearer was a medal event, would he therefore be disqualified?

I have a few other conflicts of that type in the lineup that I’m considering for my team at the moment, so it would be good to know if I just have to match the armor types of my outfits to an appropriate possible class for my model’s race, or to the actual class of the character.

    • JD Kenada July 1, 2012 / 3:15 pm

to an appropriate class. If your model happens to be a Rogue, but you use him as a Warrior model, that’s fine.

I just shouldn’t see “Mage only” gear in your Discus outfit (for example).

  13. Dizzywick July 1, 2012 / 3:04 pm

This sounds like fun! I would like to enter as well!

    • JD Kenada July 1, 2012 / 3:20 pm

The Aldor welcome you as their representative.

Thanks so much for taking part!

      • Dizzywick July 2, 2012 / 3:15 pm

Sweet as. Purple happens to be one of my favorite colours.

        • JD Kenada July 2, 2012 / 3:36 pm

Your reaction? Much better than Karegina when she found out she was representing Darnassus. That’s still my favourite.

          • Karegina July 3, 2012 / 4:27 pm

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY REACTION!

            😛

            Horde for life bro 😉

          • JD Kenada July 3, 2012 / 5:17 pm

There’s nothing wrong with it, no. It just amused me, that’s all.

          • Navimie July 9, 2012 / 9:24 am

            LOL @karegnia

  14. dragonray July 2, 2012 / 4:51 am

OK, I can’t stand back and watch, I have to enter, please throw me a tabard…if I am not too late for the opening ceremony.

    eep…

    • JD Kenada July 2, 2012 / 5:00 am

You’re not too late at all. The Sha’tar have great faith in you! 🙂

      • dragonray July 2, 2012 / 5:02 am

Why thank you 🙂 I shall go forth and conquer in their name!

        • JD Kenada July 2, 2012 / 5:09 am

          😀

  15. Ninevi July 2, 2012 / 8:13 am

This sounds awesome! Would like to give it a try, if you would be so kind to include me! 😀

    • JD Kenada July 2, 2012 / 8:25 am

Heck yes, happy to have you!

…and apparently so is Silverwing. 🙂

      Best of luck!

  16. JD Kenada July 2, 2012 / 11:06 am

This is gonna be a hoot. 🙂

  17. missescake July 2, 2012 / 11:25 am

How have we gone 30+ comments without anyone mentioning that USDA-certified Grade-A modeling the shields? It’s like Magatha auditioning for Project Runway.

    • JD Kenada July 2, 2012 / 11:27 am

Thank you for making my sides hurt.

      • missescake July 2, 2012 / 11:40 am

Happy to oblige. Had to say *something*; you rarely see Tauren women, and I happen to think they’re smoking hot.

  18. socowow July 2, 2012 / 11:41 am

Still room for a little one?

    • JD Kenada July 2, 2012 / 11:45 am

Still plenty of room! You drew the crazies, the Scarlet Crusade. They may be off their rocker, but their cheering you on!

      • socowow July 3, 2012 / 4:07 pm

“Archery – Build an outfit around your favourite bow.”
Can this be a crossbow or does it have to be an ordinary bow?

        • JD Kenada July 3, 2012 / 5:16 pm

          Traditional Bow in this case.

          • dragonray July 3, 2012 / 7:34 pm

I was wondering the same thing. thanks for the clarification

          • JD Kenada July 3, 2012 / 7:53 pm

            Any time. 🙂

          • socowow July 5, 2012 / 8:58 pm

I’ve never used Moggit so this might be a completely stupid question (forgive me!) if creating an entry via moggit, do you want us to just take a SS of the moggit window and crop it our selves or include everything that’s in the window?

          • JD Kenada July 6, 2012 / 3:50 am

I would prefer you crop it if you can. If not, I can do so.

  19. Zidux July 2, 2012 / 2:17 pm

Room for a new member of the transmog community? Just made a site 😀

    • JD Kenada July 2, 2012 / 2:49 pm

Room for folks of all type Zidux!

Good luck in bringing some medals to Ironforge!

      • Zidux July 2, 2012 / 3:44 pm

Hey, when you say I can’t post my flag carrier on my blog, does that mean I can’t tell faction, or I can’t actually post my set? Also, is there a size requirement for my images, or does it matter if they are a bit pixalated>

        • JD Kenada July 2, 2012 / 6:08 pm

I had edited the original post so that you CAN post your flagbearer, as a couple of people had done so before I included that stipulation. SO you’re ok.

So your flagbearer can be posted and you’re more than welcome to tell your readers to root for your faction come the events!

Picture size doesn’t matter, just understand that a decent sized (and clear) photo makes it easier to judge.

  20. euphyley July 2, 2012 / 3:54 pm

Oooooooo!! This sounds like a Blast!!!! Count me in if there’s still room purty please. =D

    • JD Kenada July 2, 2012 / 6:10 pm

Hrm, I think I’ll edit the original post to let people know there is no cap on the number of participants, nor is there a deadline. I always think I have these written out perfectly and tend to miss a couple details, lol.

There’s something I’m forgetting on top of that…hrm…oh yeah! Sylvanas wants you representing Undercity to the death!

      • euphyley July 2, 2012 / 6:24 pm

Wooooo! Ironstevo approves of this! =D

        • JD Kenada July 2, 2012 / 6:40 pm

          Oh, right! Indeed he would!

  21. Chatmay July 2, 2012 / 5:38 pm

OK I feel like I am getting in over my head, but sign me up!
My only question is- are you going to provide the names of the shields used in your skins graphic as I have no idea what they are.
    Thanks

    • JD Kenada July 2, 2012 / 6:04 pm

I’ll see what I can do about posting them in the original rules later tonight.

In the meantime, do Gilneas proud!

      • Chatmay July 3, 2012 / 8:43 am

OMG I know nothing about Gilneas! Guess I better go find out lol.

        • JD Kenada July 3, 2012 / 1:05 pm

All you need to know is their tabard, really. 🙂

          • Chatmay July 3, 2012 / 2:57 pm

OK so can I submit the flag bearer outfit first, or just wait and do it with all the others? I will need a week or two to get all of them done.

          • JD Kenada July 3, 2012 / 3:11 pm

You’re allowed to show your flag bearer on your blog if you wish, but otherwise it and the remaining outfits are submitted together.

With such a lofty requirement, that’s why I thought a month would be a good time frame for completion. 🙂

      • Chatmay July 5, 2012 / 6:33 am

Just wondering if any non-green items (white/gray) are allowed?

        • JD Kenada July 5, 2012 / 3:42 pm

Depends what you mean. Shirts and tabards are fine, but if they can’t be transmogged (there are a few whites that actually can be) then nay nay.

          • Chatmay July 5, 2012 / 3:46 pm

ok so what if I make an entire outfit but the wrists don’t really show- they could really be anything…. when I submit the gear list to you just leave wrists off?

          • JD Kenada July 5, 2012 / 4:11 pm

Yes, if your outfit doesn’t require wrists or pants, or you omit the helm or cape, no need to include those slots in your submission.

    • Chatmay July 6, 2012 / 1:56 am

I really need to know the name of the black skull shield towards the bottom since I am doing all of my outfits in-game. I bought the Blackskull Shield for an outrageous price and then noticed there are other shields with the same design. Please help!

      • missescake July 6, 2012 / 3:22 am

Doing them *all* in-game?!? And I thought I was crazy! Any reason beyond the challenge of it?
In all seriousness though, search the item on Wowhead and hit the “Same Model As” tab. (I’m on my phone at work or I’d add the link for you.)
        Best of luck!

        • Chatmay July 6, 2012 / 10:56 am

I am not by any means an expert with Model Viewer, and I don’t know any editing programs. I prefer to match outfits in-game still, but this has definitely been a challenge. I might have to do my last one or two in Model Viewer just because of the gender/race thing. (I don’t play horde side)

          • JD Kenada July 6, 2012 / 11:19 am

You might find MogIt to be easier, simply because it will let you do things in game, including see the item and the name rather than data mining with Model Viewer.

          • missescake July 6, 2012 / 11:42 am

I’ll second JD – if you’ve never used either, try MogIt first. Much more user-friendly. Log into WoW, click the MogIt button to open, load up the armor type/slot then browse till you see something you like. Right-click to add it to a wishlist or to Preview (which is what you’ll want to do to show off the whole set). Oh, and you’ll want to set the level filter to show 1-85 – it defaults to 1-(your current level) if I’m not mistaken.
            http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/mogit

      • missescake July 6, 2012 / 3:38 am

I’m not 100% sure the colors are a perfect match, but check out Husk of Nerub’enkan, out of Stratholme.
Also, if you have access to MogIt in-game, you can right-click on an item to get a list of all the items that share the same model/skin/color.
Hope that helps! (And Banesidhe, didn’t see your reply before I posted mine, sorry!)

      • JD Kenada July 6, 2012 / 3:52 am

As I say, I’ll get the shield names up later today but yes there are multiple named shields with the same skin and any of them are acceptable.

  22. Elaydis July 3, 2012 / 7:09 am

This sounds great! I’d like to give it a try 🙂

    • JD Kenada July 3, 2012 / 8:35 am

Happy to have you. Good luck to you and the Earthen Ring!

  23. Kaleri July 3, 2012 / 7:48 am

I would love to do this, if there’s still room!

    • JD Kenada July 3, 2012 / 8:37 am

May your hardships be few and success plentiful for the Exodar!

      Welcome to the games!

  24. Cornellian July 3, 2012 / 9:53 pm

Definitely count me in on this one! Love to flex my moggy brain muscles 🙂

    • JD Kenada July 4, 2012 / 4:05 am

The Guardians of Hyjal thank you for representing them.

      Best of luck!

    • JD Kenada July 4, 2012 / 4:08 am

You savvy battleground veteran, you. The Frostwolves are cheering you on!

    • Classy July 4, 2012 / 9:05 am

I want to have a go at it too! I am interested in playing with/learning the MogIt addin/program, it looks like it would be more updated than ModelViewer! 🙂 Faction me! 🙂

      • JD Kenada July 4, 2012 / 3:41 pm

You were received, and now all the humans are cheering you on as you represent Stormwind.

Also, for what it is worth I do have a Guide to transmog using MogIt here on the blog that you may find practical. Thanks again for reading and signing up!

        • Classy July 4, 2012 / 11:11 pm

It took me about 2 minutes to get the hang of it, and I LOVE It! I’m glad it excludes items that aren’t available anymore (phew!) Very happy with my flagbearer…have to post her tomorrow evening. She’ll be rollin’ in with style because Stormwind does it B-I-G.

          • JD Kenada July 5, 2012 / 3:57 am

            Ha ha.

Yeah, it’s an amazing addon for those of us who love that sort of thing.

  25. Lakey July 4, 2012 / 8:38 am

A bit late to the party but if it’s still open I would love to enter!

    • JD Kenada July 4, 2012 / 3:39 pm

      It’s completely open.

Dunno how you feel about those Death Knight folk, but the Knights of the Ebon Blade are certainly hoping you represent them well.

  26. Gimp July 4, 2012 / 8:32 pm

Im so up for this, so hit me with a faction and ill start preparing 😀

    • JD Kenada July 5, 2012 / 4:01 am

Those Hippy Elves in Zangarmarsh are cheering you on now. A few Tauren, too, I suppose.

Best of luck to you and Cenarion Expedition!

  27. Banesidhe July 5, 2012 / 1:53 am

Hi! I would love to join up and see how well I do! Thanks!

    • JD Kenada July 5, 2012 / 4:04 am

Glad to have you on board. You’ll be representing Light’s Hope Chapel and the rest of the Argent Dawn.

      • Banesidhe July 5, 2012 / 6:40 am

        Whoot! Hurray for old school!

Just a quick question, in regards to the Equestrian event, this includes -any- horse model mount, such as Spectral, Celestial, Tyreal, Headless Horsemen, Invincible, etc?? Or just “traditional” like Stormwind, Gilneas, and paladin mounts? (This is probably a dumb question, but I want to make sure before I go off on an inspired 3 hours search and find out later I can’t use it…. 😉 )

        • JD Kenada July 5, 2012 / 3:42 pm

Not a dumb question at all. The answer is yes 🙂

  28. Elisa July 5, 2012 / 9:38 am

Hey 😀 I’m actually on time for this one. May I please join this competition? I have WMV and enough time (I think) to pull this one off by the deadline! Hurray! I’ll take frequent peeks back here to see your response. Thanks!! 😀

    • JD Kenada July 5, 2012 / 3:50 pm

Arathor welcomes you with open arms!

  29. Walks July 5, 2012 / 9:49 am

I’d love to participate if entries are still open. 🙂

    • JD Kenada July 5, 2012 / 3:52 pm

Really, entry is open until the day submissions are due. 🙂

The Science of the Alliance is pulling for you. For Gnomeregan!

  30. Susan Ward July 5, 2012 / 12:28 pm

This sounds like fun, count me in!

    • JD Kenada July 5, 2012 / 4:01 pm

      Welcome to the games.

Play nice, I know how those Keepers of Time like to fly back and tinker with past events 😉

      • Susan Ward July 5, 2012 / 5:21 pm

Question: Some items can’t be used for mogging (such as the fish mace, the invisible leather chest armor, etc.), can we use these items in our outfits or do all the items have to be eligible for transmogrification?

        • JD Kenada July 5, 2012 / 5:56 pm

I actually just did a clarification post today to help with this (as you weren’t the only one to ask). It needs to be a proper endgame transmog, so the only exceptions are wrists, legs, helm and cloak (which might not be seen, or even used).

  31. Copperox July 5, 2012 / 1:01 pm

Please add me to the roll. This is really intriguing. I have more than enough outfits on multiple toons. With new ideas to develop. This will give me the platform to follow through/show off. 😀 Thanks.

    • JD Kenada July 5, 2012 / 4:05 pm

Thanks for participating! Best of luck to you as you bring home the gold for Baradin’s Wardens!

  32. Chatmay July 6, 2012 / 10:57 am

Well I am completely devastated today. I reread the rules/criteria and noticed that the biker outfit has to be leather or mail. I did mine in plate. And it was awesome. Oh well.

    • JD Kenada July 6, 2012 / 11:20 am

I hope you still post it on your blog! I would love to see it!

        • Chatmay July 9, 2012 / 11:15 pm

I am so frustrated because tonight I thought- I could have used that outfit for hammer throw (with a mace) if I had not posted it on my blog! lol Oh well, working on another outfit.

          • JD Kenada July 10, 2012 / 4:00 am

            Aw, you’re so right.

I’ll find the silver lining in knowing what you submit in the end will still be pretty awesome.

  33. Kaleri (@Kaleri_) July 6, 2012 / 11:54 am

Question, for the cycling event the bike in question has to be the Chopper, not the Mechano-Hog, correct?

(Because I totally did an outfit for the latter ><)

    • JD Kenada July 6, 2012 / 1:51 pm

No, no. Whatever bike your faction has is more than suffice.

Also, I should clarify the bike itself does NOT need to be in the picture as well.

  34. satsuri July 6, 2012 / 12:03 pm

As a transmog addict, I’d love to try this! Sign me up! 😀

    • JD Kenada July 6, 2012 / 6:57 pm

      Thanks for joining in!

Those shady Ethereals are already trying to bribe the judges on behalf of you and the Consortium!

    • JD Kenada July 6, 2012 / 6:50 pm

Great idea. All I had done thus far was my written guide to transmogging and it loosely explained MogIt!

  35. Khraden July 6, 2012 / 3:23 pm

Count me in. This sounds like an awesome little competition!

    • JD Kenada July 6, 2012 / 6:58 pm

Glad to have you! As are the Mag’har!

      • Khraden July 6, 2012 / 11:16 pm

One quick clarification. Do they have to be FULL sets, or can they be partial sets, though still fitting to the “able to be transmogrifiable for that armor class”.

        • JD Kenada July 7, 2012 / 6:05 am

If the wrists or legs are hidden, they aren’t needed. If you’re not using the helm or cloak slot, that is fine as in-game you can hide those. Events such as Archery where it is built around a weapon, you must use the weapon slot but for something like Wrestling one is not needed.

I hope that helps clarify things.

          • Khraden July 7, 2012 / 9:19 pm

Ok, I was mostly wondering about the requirement to use shoulders, etc. The rest should be easy to manage.

  36. zuktheinsane July 6, 2012 / 3:30 pm

Count me in, if there’s still time

    • JD Kenada July 6, 2012 / 7:00 pm

Absolutely plenty of time and we’re glad you could join us! May you bring much success to Warsong!

      • zuktheinsane July 7, 2012 / 12:35 am

        3 follow up questions:
Are items that have been removed from the game fair game?
Are tabards that don’t represent a faction fair game (for our non-flagbearer set)
Do you want us providing a short description of our costumes when we send them in?

Thanks! Looking forward to the fun!

        • JD Kenada July 7, 2012 / 6:12 am

          Removed items are fine.

Tabards, no. I actually never even thought of this scenario and am glad you asked. I’ll be posting about that very soon.

Please include the items used for the outfit. If you want to add any description or explanation that is entirely up to you. It may add insight to the outfit that the judges might not have caught on their own, but it is by no means necessary.

  37. chris carnes July 6, 2012 / 3:38 pm

I love to transmog, I’m ready for my closeup now. I’m in.

    • JD Kenada July 6, 2012 / 7:02 pm

The Defilers have high expectations. I have utmost faith in you!

      Thanks for joining!

  38. Revynn July 6, 2012 / 3:40 pm

Ready to embarrass myself with terrible submissions, sir!

(Translation: I’m nub, but this sounds like fun. Count me in.)

    • JD Kenada July 6, 2012 / 7:04 pm

Hellscream’s Reach clearly considers you to be far from a nub.

      Good luck!

  39. Top July 6, 2012 / 4:07 pm

I would love to participate! I used to spend hours (mostly during patch day or maintenance) fiddling around with model viewer back in the day.

    • JD Kenada July 6, 2012 / 7:08 pm

All that time training in Shattrath has paid off. Lower City is hoping for a medal or two!

  40. bombtronbecky July 6, 2012 / 4:26 pm

If the Olympics people see the name of this event, they’ll probably ask you to change it….

    • JD Kenada July 6, 2012 / 7:10 pm

The advice is much appreciated, as was Robin’s on the matter. I’m hoping that since there is absolutely no profit or benefit from it on our end they’ll essentially ignore it. If not, a backup plan is in place. 🙂

  41. corhi July 6, 2012 / 4:27 pm

This sounds fun; I’d like to give it a shot (found you via WoW Insider’s post).

    • JD Kenada July 6, 2012 / 7:11 pm

Glad to have you on board, and Thrallmar is chanting your name.

      • corhi July 10, 2012 / 8:37 pm

I’m finding that maining a pally has really limited my previous mogging attempts–I’m at 5 outfits, and 4 have been mail.

I also want to, while I’m remembering, say a big thank you for putting this together. I’m having a ton of fun, I’m learning WMV and MogIt, and I wouldn’t have gotten involved in doing so if not for you. I can’t wait to see what everyone’s put together in another few weeks.

Also you’ve inspired me to start blogging my transmog adventures: http://corhi.wordpress.com/2012/07/11/transmog-it-is/

        • JD Kenada July 11, 2012 / 3:11 am

Thanks so much for the kind words. Again, I prefer MogIt as there’s far less “data mining” as it were and it works fully on a trial account (if you want some privacy while you work).

          • corhi July 11, 2012 / 5:33 am

I’ve been using MogIt to get a look I like, then transferring that to WMV to work with backgrounds and find appropriate models… it’s gotten a little involved! ;p

          • JD Kenada July 11, 2012 / 10:35 am

            😉

          • corhi July 11, 2012 / 4:27 pm

Ran across a question while digging in for the final stretch: Along the same lines as “you might want to describe the look you were going for”, are multiple screenshots going to be a help or a hindrance, or would it just make your job harder in having to choose just one of the multiple submitted?

          • JD Kenada July 12, 2012 / 3:11 pm

Multiple shots are helpful because quite often you can’t show everything you want in a single 2D image. So by all means!

    • JD Kenada July 6, 2012 / 7:14 pm

Winds be at your back! The Tauren patiently await the blessings you bring on behalf of the Earthmother!

      • khizzara July 6, 2012 / 9:14 pm

Ooh, the Tauren representative! I may have to cheer for this one on principle. No, I’m not a biased judge at all… >.>

  42. Silverdragon July 6, 2012 / 4:50 pm

Count me in! This sounds like fun. Just to clarify though, does the stuff we have to use be currently available in game, or can we use past items which have been retired (but that some people may have kept in their banks)?

    • JD Kenada July 6, 2012 / 7:16 pm

Any item that can be transmogged can be used (for example, my Death Knight has the old level 70 shoulders from Zul’Gurub, which would be allowed).

Can you hear the Scryers chanting your name? Ok, they more or less whisper in their library, but it’s still about you!

  43. ishtaa July 6, 2012 / 5:07 pm

I would like to enter… this sounds like fun!

    • JD Kenada July 6, 2012 / 7:18 pm

Spent some time in Black Temple did we? The Illidari are confident you’ll do well!

(and thanks so much for signing up)

  44. steven996 July 6, 2012 / 5:09 pm

I would like to sign up as well. My only question is that as for those of us who don’t have many 85s to collect gear with, can we use Model Viewer for all or just the Chopper?

    • JD Kenada July 6, 2012 / 7:20 pm

You can use Modelviewer for as much as you like (may I suggest MogIt though? Much easier to work with, I think you’ll find).

The Shattered Sun Offensive is happy to have you! (as are all of the judges).

  45. Haida Gwaii July 6, 2012 / 5:50 pm

    This. Is. Awesome!

    Please sign me up:)

    • JD Kenada July 6, 2012 / 7:22 pm

The Skyguard are happy to have you as their representative!

  46. kheiron91 July 6, 2012 / 5:59 pm

I’d love to enter and get some feedback on my mogging. I’m in!

    • JD Kenada July 6, 2012 / 7:22 pm

Can’t wait to see what you do on behalf of the red dragons and Wyrmrest Accord!

  47. Matthew2 July 6, 2012 / 6:02 pm

I would like to enter! This sounds very very cool – I do it in game so why not for fun? ;D

    • JD Kenada July 6, 2012 / 7:25 pm

      Hi! You got the Kurenai!

      …I promise no more rhyming.

  48. Miriarose July 6, 2012 / 6:41 pm

There is little i love more than building random transmog outfits. Count me in! Which faction am I representing? I want to get going!

    • JD Kenada July 6, 2012 / 7:26 pm

Ignore Garrosh, and I think you’ll be happy to have Orgrimmar drumming in support!

      • Miriarose July 6, 2012 / 7:51 pm

LOL!! I just knew I was going to get a horde faction!

I can still do outfits on Alliance toons even though I’m representing Orgrimmar, right?

        • JD Kenada July 6, 2012 / 8:04 pm

          Totally.

Karegina, entered on behalf of Darnassus, truly feels your pain as well. 😉

Though they might declare war on their own flag bearer…

          • Miriarose July 6, 2012 / 8:13 pm

Well I always did want Garrosh’s tiny head to explode… haha.

More questions: When you say horse mounts, do you include Deathcharger, Tyrael’s Charger, Fiery Warhorse, Invincible and other such mounts?

Does the Argent Lance count as a polearm (I would imagine not but I might as well ask)?

          • Karegina July 7, 2012 / 1:38 pm

Moooooooooo! FOR THE HORDE! I WILL TAKE THE CITY OF THE TREE AS MY OWN! 😀

          • JD Kenada July 8, 2012 / 5:54 am

            *snerk*

  49. zankhamun July 6, 2012 / 6:54 pm

    Ooh, can I play? =D

    • JD Kenada July 6, 2012 / 7:28 pm

Ogri’la says you can, and you can represent them as well. 🙂

  50. Morigan July 6, 2012 / 7:23 pm

I VOLUNTEER AS TRIBUTE! …er… *ahem* I would also like to participate.

    • JD Kenada July 6, 2012 / 7:29 pm

The last remaining faction is yours! The Wildhammer Clan respect your fierce pride!

  51. chriscarnessr July 6, 2012 / 7:29 pm

youre sending my hundreds of emails, i’m getting one every second or so. stop it

    • JD Kenada July 6, 2012 / 7:31 pm

I apologize for whatever might be causing it. Rest assured all I did was reply to your entry the one time.

  52. Darkfa1th July 6, 2012 / 8:05 pm

count me in if its not to late that is

    • JD Kenada July 6, 2012 / 8:08 pm

      Not at all!

You’ve been welcomed with open arms by Hellscream’s Reach!

  53. Chatmay July 6, 2012 / 8:26 pm

If anyone is wondering about the tons of email, it’s because WOW Insider put an article up about this 5 hours ago. I am trying to figure out how to unsubscribe from comments :/

    • missescake July 6, 2012 / 9:14 pm

On mobile (and I’d assume from desktop), hit the link at the bottom “Follow Blog Via Email”, or just log into WordPress and go to Blogs I Follow. Once there, choose Comments and hit Delete on this post.

      • JD Kenada July 7, 2012 / 6:01 am

        Thanks for sorting that out!

  54. Haida Gwaii July 6, 2012 / 8:32 pm

    This. Is. Awesome!

    Please sign me up 🙂

    • Haida Gwaii July 6, 2012 / 8:36 pm

Sry for second comment didnt see that the first went through…and thx again this will be fun

  55. Matthew2 July 6, 2012 / 9:19 pm

Will judges deduct points for not having a background if we use the modelviewer?

    • JD Kenada July 7, 2012 / 6:02 am

      Not in the slightest Matthew.

  56. Pancàkes July 6, 2012 / 10:00 pm

I’d like to participate in the games please.

    • JD Kenada July 7, 2012 / 6:04 am

    • JD Kenada July 7, 2012 / 8:14 am

Just happened to see this before I checked my e-mail. Therazane is happy to have another representative at the games!

  59. Freyana July 7, 2012 / 8:37 am

This is awesome! I would love to compete for the glory of Transmog!

    • JD Kenada July 7, 2012 / 8:51 am

Glad to have you involved. Sporeggar requests your services alongside Mrs. Amateur. 🙂

      • Freyana July 7, 2012 / 1:35 pm

Aww yay! I will do my best for the adorable little ‘shrooms 🙂

    • JD Kenada July 7, 2012 / 12:43 pm

Glad to have you on board!

      Do Gilneas proud!

    • JD Kenada July 7, 2012 / 12:46 pm

Sure thing! The Aldor are happy to have another representative!

  60. Axiret July 7, 2012 / 12:30 pm

I would very much like to give this a try 🙂

    • JD Kenada July 7, 2012 / 12:47 pm

The Defilers would very much like to have you!

  61. madchieften July 7, 2012 / 1:14 pm

Hey id like to join if your still accepting?

    • JD Kenada July 8, 2012 / 5:53 am

We most certainly are. Thunder Bluff is pleased to have you!

  62. Briansbum July 7, 2012 / 5:29 pm

Sounds like fun, I accept your challenge 🙂

    • JD Kenada July 8, 2012 / 5:56 am

Stormpike is glad to have you on board. Best of luck!

  63. Miriarose July 7, 2012 / 9:57 pm

I’m representing Orgrimmar, so can I use the Orgrimmar Scout Tabard instead of the plain one?

    • JD Kenada July 8, 2012 / 5:56 am

      Yes, you may.

  64. King Col July 8, 2012 / 2:19 am

Sign me up please, this sounds like a lot of fun 🙂

I like to think of myself as an expert of transmogrification (mostly for my hunter main), so I’d love to have a bit of a challenge, mostly designed around various items in them game that I love that I’ve never found a use for. Few questions though:

    1. For armour sets without a weapon (eg Cycling, Freestyle), can we include well fitting weapons?
    2. Can we include a description of the sets, explain what we did and why we used pieces?
    3. Can we include armour/weapons that are no longer in the game? Will try to avoid doing this, but still…
    4. As a proud horde player, I’ll be creating only horde race toons, so can I have a tabard available to the horde?

    • JD Kenada July 8, 2012 / 6:00 am

For questions 1-3, the answer is yes.

For number 4 it is entirely random (I’ve had one pro-Alliance end up Horde and one pro-Horde end up Alliance). Having said that, let’s see what the random generator brings you…luck be on your side, Thrallmar has welcomed you.

      • Banesidhe July 9, 2012 / 9:37 am

A follow up, sort of. If the outfit for the event doesn’t specifically call for weapons, can we use novelty off hands, say, easter baskets, flowers, items that are not transmoggable, but are not part of the outfit themselves. For flavor, as it were? 🙂

        • JD Kenada July 9, 2012 / 6:52 pm

In hindsight I should have considered that option. Unfortunately I’ve already said your outfit must be an end-game transmog (with the exception of head/cloak/pants/wrists and weapons not necessary where not required).

Over concern of effecting people who might’ve already finished outfits without this option if it were to be changed, I’m going to have to say “no.”

As I say, I think it’s a great idea (especially for the freestyle event) but I’ve already started receiving entries and it wouldn’t be fair, so to speak.

  65. Matthew2 July 8, 2012 / 3:10 am

For Fencing: Is it ok if we don’t use an off hand? (just have a 1H sword) or do we have to find an off hand? In real life fencing, the other hand is held empty. . .

    • JD Kenada July 8, 2012 / 5:58 am

You merely need a 1H sword. It can be in either hand (some people are left handed and others right handed after all), and no you don’t need an item in your other hand in this case.

  66. XD00175 July 8, 2012 / 2:54 pm

Found out about this through WoW Insider, and it sounds awesome! I’d love to get in on this!

    • JD Kenada July 8, 2012 / 3:38 pm

Silverwing would love to have you 😀

  67. XD00175 July 8, 2012 / 3:43 pm

Awesome, thanks! Time to get to work.

    • JD Kenada July 8, 2012 / 4:03 pm

      Thank you for signing up!

  68. Matthew2 July 8, 2012 / 7:35 pm

I have entered! The Kurenai are Broken no More! (please let me know if you got my submissions please!) I can’t wait to see the competition.

    • JD Kenada July 8, 2012 / 8:22 pm

      All outfits done? Dang, awesome!

  69. Vaniya July 9, 2012 / 8:42 am

Hey, do you have to be a blogger to participate? If not, count me in!

    • Vaniya July 9, 2012 / 8:39 pm

As elaboration, I’d like to enter :3 if possible!

      • JD Kenada July 10, 2012 / 3:56 am

Vaniya, I apologize that I missed your comment yesterday. There’s absolutely no blogger requirement.

Your faction is the Keepers of Time! 🙂

    • JD Kenada July 9, 2012 / 6:55 pm

Argent Crusade it is (and I shortened the name to SMEF in the contestant listing, hope you don’t mind).

      • Sudden Massive Existence Failure July 9, 2012 / 9:08 pm

Frak yes Argent Crusade! I own every mount and every pet from their tourney. I may be the only person in the whole world who enjoys those dailies. Am I able to use the lance in my flag-bearer’s ‘Mog? (And feel free to use the abbreviation 😀 )

        • JD Kenada July 10, 2012 / 3:53 am

Glad to see you’re happy with the RNG, lol.

  70. Chatmay July 10, 2012 / 7:23 pm

Sorry if this has been asked, but my guildies keep asking me if there is a prize, and I told them I had no idea lol. Is there one?

    • JD Kenada July 10, 2012 / 7:36 pm

Yup, I’m actually looking at them here on my desk.

  71. Chatmay July 10, 2012 / 7:45 pm

Final question (I hope). Since a helm is not technically required, can I put a cloth helm on a leather wearing toon just for flavor?

    • JD Kenada July 11, 2012 / 3:03 am

A helm is not required, but if you use one it needs to fall in line with the armor type the class uses at endgame, so as to be a proper transmog.

**note to self** Next contest, get participant input and ideas before finalizing. Too many good ideas come AFTER you start the contest.

  72. Chatmay July 11, 2012 / 3:53 pm

Last question before I email you-
Do I email you the flag-bearer pic/info with the other 9?
Can I submit 2 photos for some outfits as it is hard to get a shot of cloak, sword, shield etc at one time?

    • JD Kenada July 12, 2012 / 3:11 pm

      Yes to both. 😀

      I’m so excited!

      • Chatmay July 24, 2012 / 7:14 pm

Sent! Can you confirm by email or here?
        Thanks so much!

        • JD Kenada July 24, 2012 / 7:20 pm

          Received. 🙂

  73. Tyler July 11, 2012 / 7:51 pm

I would like to enter and sign up 😀

Sorry for not replying sooner and welcoming you! Been a bit busy.

The good news is, you’re in and Baradin’s Wardens are happy to have you!

Hey JD, sorry to bother. I have a question with regards to this statement quoted from the “Details” above: “Your event entry must be able to use the outfit as a proper end-game transmog”

Does this mean that every outfit entry must also have weapons? I mean other than the archery, javelin and fencing entries which revolve around one particular weapon. (Considering that at end game, any t-mogged weapons glow with true end-game enchants, making them less distinguishable anyway…)

    Thanks!

In the update post I actually clarified this to say non-weapon events do not require weapons as part of the transmog. From all you awesome entrants I’ve had to update a few things (because I could not foresee all the questions and brilliant ideas others would also have.)

      Hope that helps!
