Artwork

Most people cling to a four-leaf clover or believe in kissing the Blarney Stone.  Forget the Irish, I’m believing in the Arvash.  Wait, no, I didn’t kiss him.  But when it comes to pets and mounts, he’s got some pretty impressive luck.

So I channeled my best Spirit of the Arv when I strolled in to Wal-Mart today.  I was there for Potatoes and Milk…and to pick up an old raid deck or starter because the tin design is great for another project for an unrelated hobby.  Of course, this would be the third Wal-Mart that suddenly doesn’t have any.  So, instead I bought a booster of the TCG.  I don’t actually play the game, or know how, but the art is a thing of beauty.  I guess I was just hoping beyond hope for a loot card.

BOOYAH!

Of course, I already have one courtesy of the previously mentioned Arv (and Navimie).  So I walked in, amidst a miserable day and a sick wife and handed it to her.

So let me preface this by saying that Mrs. Amateur has a big family.  Both sides.  We joked because both sides needed to be shot from a landscape view at our wedding.  So Christmas would break us all.  However, the grandkids (her generation), spouses, and great-grandkid (ours) do a Secret Santa.  A young woman named Jessica drew me.  Let me say right now I’ve been amazed by her artwork for some time (because Mrs. Amateur shares it with me often).  Like, honest to goodness makes me say “Holy shit, that is amazing.”  So, when I was asked what I would like (we keep the gifts to a 20 dollar-ish limit), I decided I wanted a drawing of Tum from her.  I knew it would be good, and to me worth far more than twenty dollars I might add.  Thing is, I had no idea how good.

Paintum

Yeah, not even a drawing.  A full blown 8×10 painting!!!!!!  I’m still speechless and I opened it several days ago.  Thank you just seems kind of an understatement after receiving something like this.

At the same time, my mind raced and I told Mrs. Amateur that Jessica needs a Deviant Art page if she doesn’t already have one, because I think she could do very well with the World of Warcraft community.  Turns out she doesn’t, but she does have a Wix page that shows off some of her previous work.  I don’t know at this point if she’s accepting commissions.  It wouldn’t hurt to ask (my feelers didn’t yield any positive or negative results).  I don’t see harm in asking her and if I hear outright that she is, then I will definitely post the news right here!  If she doesn’t, then you’ll hear no qualms about my one of a kind!

Yes. I love my healing first and foremost.  But I enjoy the Rogue class for a number of reasons that I connect to.  One of those reasons?  Sneaky.  I take great pride in being able to surprise someone, in a good way of course.  With great sneakiness comes great responsibility…lest someone have a heart attack.  Where was I?  Oh…right.  Sneaky.

I’m pretty good at keeping a secret (like the entirely new blog for the Mogolympics archive…though I nearly botched my own hush hush on that one).  Sometimes, it drives Mrs. Amateur nuts.  This?  Will be no different.

You see, once upon a time there was an awesome blogger we’ll call “Navi.”  See, “Navi” did a post one day about this artist on deviant art and then began showing off some of her work.  This included the infamous “Chibi Navimie”…er, Navi.  Meh, so much for suggested anonymity anyway.  So, I got to see Chibi Navimie and checked out the artist’s work as well.  I even showed Mrs. Amateur one of her other works.  Completely unrelated if I recall, but still awesome.  I was also disappointed that said artist wasn’t taking commissions.

Then quite by accident (or Navimie posted it, I honestly don’t remember) I found out the artist was taking commissions again.  Quick hop, skip, and jump…oh man, a waiting list.  Well, let’s hope for the best…

When my name appeared, I prayed word never got back to my wife…because hey, I like to surprise her.  Time went by and I had almost forgotten about it because when I last checked the artist was still working on the request(s) of the person ahead of me.  Then in the middle of working on the closing ceremonies I got an e-mail.  Actually, I got many e-mails around that time but it was the one from Sleeping Fox that I’m talking about here.  She was now working on mine!

We got the fine details sorted out, and honestly I went back to working on the games.  When your mind is on a track, you tend to not linger at the station long.  I’ll pause to be honest with you…early this week, I was reaching burnout.  It wasn’t necessarily blogger burnout, but the daunting task that was before me wasn’t helping my overall self on any level.  I even had a couple people e-mail me (and I appreciate that) if I was ok.  I mention this, because when Sleeping Fox next e-mailed me it was exactly what I needed.  That feeling made everything much easier.  For I now had Mrs. Amateur’s Chibi Taelainne!

It came out pretty much as I had asked from her, and it was made so much easier when Mrs. Amateur submitted this exact outfit to Pretty Fly Draenei.  I had wanted to use it for the commission, but couldn’t track it down anywhere to save my soul, because she had Mogged to something more amusing in-game recently.  So thanks Sweets!

To make me even more the Rogue, I didn’t just get one commission.  I got two.  I remember Navi asking me (because she saw that I had signed up) who, or what, the second one was going to be and I told her.  I thought it would be a great gift for a friend of mine, who also happens to blog.  In the time since I first commissioned Sleeping Fox, I think this is something she could really use.  That makes it even more special for me, on top of knowing that she never saw it coming (and I can guarantee Mrs. Amateur didn’t expect hers either).  So, I’m happy to share my second commission for Glyph of Jai, Chibi Kuroma

To both, I have the original images, so don’t bother pulling these ones.  The ones I have are significantly larger.  Heh.  I want to thank Navi for sharing this idea in the first place, and especially Sleeping Fox for her incredible job on both.  I know I had a lot of “can you do this, with this, and this…a flame in Tae’s hand, oh and include a rose somewhere on Kuroma please!”  I already told her to expect me as a repeat customer somewhere down the line and I really can’t recommend her enough.  I’ve never been the “chibi” type but I think hers are just phenomenal.  I really do.

Seriously, why are you still here?
