After much humming and just getting acquainted with specs for my various characters, I finally hopped into the Random Dungeon queue last night. First off, it took about 8 seconds which is great. Sure, healers get that benefit, but given all the chaos after the patch some other healers I knew were reporting longer lines. So, in Tum went (with 30k health by the way).
I wasn’t too thrilled that we got Azjol Nerub as our dungeon. I remember how hard that was when we first hit heroic, not to mention new talents. Well, when all was said and done we had wiped once, and a dps Warrior had died two other times (first boss, and was one-shotted on the final boss). I claim responsibility for his death on Krik’thir, as I was feeling out some of my spells and just (barely) missed keeping him alive.
As you’d guess, Tumunzahar remains specced Holy Priest. Until now, he never Circle of Healing. I always went with Lightwell instead in my talent spec and while people might guffaw, I consider myself a reasonably competent Lightwell type healer. So, CoH was a new ability to me and I’m sure I’ll use it more in certain raid scenarios.
Speaking of new, I really like Chakra. Increasing our Crit chance, or making our Renew ability work even better, is great. There are circumstances where I can see this being really effective and is a nice move away from non-stop healing. Don’t get me wrong, I like hitting heals left and right. I just see this as a small means of reducing overhealing -which I have seen a tonne of in the Lich King expansion.
Raiding will be the next true measuring stick. Mp5 is gone, and Spellpower is no longer on gear. In an instance, it’s not noticed. I seemed to have more than enough mana and power to cover everything, but I know I’ll be moving some Stamina in favor of some other bonuses before I hit a 10-man.
At a glance, Holy Priest healing hasn’t changed too much. The crazy stamina that characters currently enjoy (as in, prior to Blizz cranking the damage output on enemies) gives us a slight “catch our breath” as we test things out. There’s room for small error at this stage, and that’s great. I know tanks are wishing they had that. The biggest thing now, is glyphs, enchants and reforging (more on that tomorrow).
