Sure, he won’t be Warchief for much longer, but that’s how DC Unlimited packaged Azeroth’s greatest Shaman. The picture doesn’t do him justice, as he looks very good. I got my hands on one today and am very happy to add him to the collection.
The DC Unlimited series of Warcraft figures has been very well done. Aside from the Gnome on the Mechano mount and the Blood Elf Rogue, they’re all well designed with great detail. The problem with the Gnome was the “flight peg” they used for the sculpt and it’s lack of durability (snap, broken…screwed), and the Rogue simply does not balance without a shelf adhesive of some kind.
At the same time, Thrall is great and Sylvanas is just awe-inspiring (even my mother wants one). Vindicator Maraad might be my personal favourite, though. The Draenei Paladin was well captured and looks straight out of the Burning Crusade cinematic. It’s also nice to see the folks at DC turning towards the characters we know and love. I get that they wanted to increase sales of the Warcraft comic but I would have preferred characters other than Lo’Gosh, Valeera, and Broll. I personally think it hurt sales a bit, rather than help. But that’s all going to change.
While Thrall, Sylvanas, Magni, and the Goblin Engineer were due out back in April, they’re just hitting shelves this quarter. But, they’re worth the wait and most stores I’ve been in are sold out or have very little stock. That scenario will probably play out again before Christmas as the Lich King deluxe figure is still expected to hit shelves. Just as exciting are several other well known characters coming down the pipeline: The Black Knight, Taz’Dingo, Garrosh Hellscream (complete with new in-game look), and The Headless Horseman. Of course, most of them are expected in the new year. That’s ok by me, it gives me time to save up.
