The plan was to have a post-free weekend, but the sheer ignorance of some people tugged at me too hard. Such is the price for visiting the forums, right? Before I get into details, please know this is going to relate to a major spoiler for Mists of Pandaria. If you don’t want to be spoiled, skip today’s post.
Still with me? Ok. If you don’t mind spoilers, you might have already heard about Theramore Island and its future. If not, it’s a doozy. You see, just prior to Mists of Pandaria launching, it will be hazed. Garrosh wants the Horde to control Kalimdor entirely and thus will seize (or burn) the island to the ground. Theramore is easily one of my favourite places in the game. Most of my characters have traveled through it while leveling, and well…we’re getting off track.
Since the news came out early in the week, you can imagine the outcry. Perhaps you share it as well. Let’s face it, there’s fair reason to be upset about a major location coming up short in existence. I have no problem with that. It’s the absurd ignorance and levels of unjust verbal berating towards Blizzard that I just can’t fathom. Players are screaming that Blizzard continues to show bias towards the Horde, and this is yet another example that the Blue & Gold will always be treated as a weaker faction (paraphrasing). Did the Horde get some bias this expansion? Yes. But the thing to remember is, this is a war between two sides. Until a war ends unequivocally, there will be give and take, wins and losses. Some will be bigger than others. Even taking that simple logic out of the equation for a moment, those of you crying foul about an event that happens even before the expansion goes live are forgetting just who‘s island we’re talking about here. You really think she’s going to be all “ho-hum” about it? Then there’s Thrall as well. The reaction to this has so many options that I get goosebumps just thinking about it. So when people go as far as to say this is just obnoxious.
Yea, I’m not going to spoil where the story is going to try and make you feel better. 🙂
I’m not ignoring the thread either. I’ve had several conversations with Lead Quest Designer Dave Kosak about threads like this one, what will happen with Theramore, as well as where things will go from there. But there’s very little else I can say in this thread that I haven’t already to ease your mind. We have a story to tell, know how we want to tell it, and have a clear direction we’re going. Many people in this thread have already accused me of making false promises in the past, or saying my words here are empty, so my feeling is you’ll just have to see what happens.
This was the reply from Zharym on the issue and I commend him for his patience. Look at last weekend when I posted a knee jerk reaction to the Mists Trailer. The next day I looked at things closer and flat out said “I’ll most certainly give things a thorough chance when the time comes and I’ll do so with an open mind…” So, when a blue comes in and says “trust me” when it comes to this, I’m ok to do that. I have the ability to wait and see what comes to pass rather than beg for the details now just so I won’t worry about the characters and world I’m passionate about.
