They’re easily the subject of the most jokes in the game, and people seem to either love them or hate them. They are the Gnomes of Azeroth and they’re the subject of today’s top five. While Gnomes are colorful and seem to draw attention wherever they roam, they’re not at the forefront of the lore outside of the Gnomeregan/Ironforge area. Still, there are a few worth talking about.
5. Millhouse Manastorm
Players who started during Cataclysm, or even Wrath, might not get the full picture of Millhouse. Those players would know him as the Gnome you chase through The Stonecore. Older players might wish they left him to rot in The Arcatraz. That’s where Manastorm first appeared, as a prisoner. To this day, his lines in the final fight are among the best in the game.
Not necessarily as lore impacting as most Gnomes, Breanni deserves to be on the list just the same. Located in Dalaran, Breanni runs the Magical Menagerie pet shop. She also sends you achievement pets, and the Mr. Chilly penguin. More importantly, her and her shop are a direct tribute to Warcraftpets.com, easily the best and most comprehensive non-combat pet website on the internet.
3. Mekgineer Thermaplugg
Nevermind seeing him means you’ve finally reached the end of Gnomeregan, he’s villain numero uno to the Gnome race. His tale is a tragic one, and of course that’s only if you believe jealousy, greed, and manipulation are grounds for tragedy. Well, they would be if he didn’t commit all of them. Short story long, Thermaplugg was a genius inventor with ambitions of being the true king of the Gnome race. When the council picked someone else, he kinda lost it. Heck, there’s even rumours he caused the Trogg invasion in the first place.
2. Silas Darkmoon
The last name says it all, as Silas is the mind behind the Darkmoon Faire. If you really want to understand this Gnome, I recommend reading Blood Runs Thicker – a story involving the crew of the Faire. You really see Silas’ personality. Otherwise, thank him when you visit the Faire at the start of each month. You can find him strolling about with his bodyguard Burth.
1. Gelbin Mekkatorque
Who else could it possibly be? The High Tinker himself has done more for his people than anyone else in their history. Or at the very least, has had to helm the Gnomes against most of their adversity. The original fall of Gnomeregan was unfortunate, and he really felt responsible for it. It weighed heavily, and despite the fact his former friend was the driving force behind it happening, Mekkatorque worked diligently towards his goal of getting the city back. Prior to Cataclysm, having the opportunity to fight alongside him in taking back the Gnomeregan was a great moment.
