So, some speculated based on recent comments, but for the most part people did not expect to see me back in Azeroth last night. Some thought it was the expansion news that did it but to be perfectly honest it had nothing to do with it, save for the fact it might have sped things up in a miniscule way.
When I announced last Winter that I was stepping away from my characters, I said “never say never.” Part of that was because I wouldn’t rule it out, realistically. But, it wasn’t even the summer months and I knew I was coming back. Not as in, coming back full tilt mind you. I had planned to return at the start of Winter Veil as a surprise and to also spend time with so many friends during what is one of my favourite times of the year. However, it turns out I was in for a surprise of my own.
You see, as the leaves turned colour and we came upon Hallowe’en, I changed my Facebook avatar to the Headless Horseman. I chose it just for the holiday, but I think my subconscious was at work here. As the month drew to a close I realized two things in particular. I couldn’t wait until Winter Veil anymore, and it wasn’t just my friends that I was looking forward to. I was looking forward to playing. I was thinking about toons and such, though my first login was going to be a no-brainer (hint: he’s up top there). So then it came down to when.
Well, I had thought long and hard about it and decided on a Saturday night. Admittedly, I wanted as many people on as possible because it had been so long since I talked to some of them. Then as it turned out, we were originally going to be child free this weekend. We had some early evening plans, but the night was still somewhat open. That it happened to be BlizzCon and the new expansion news came was just icing on the cake for the timing to be right.
So, the Amateur is back. Not just trying to write about a game I’d lost touch with when I walked away, but also getting into the down and dirty. Beating down bad guys and healing hooligans…and with any luck, working the auction house again. Will I be on a lot? Yes, but probably not for lengths of time very often. I’ve gotten into a pretty good non-digital groove being a dad and I won’t revert that. But, there will be regular pockets of time where you’ll see me. You’ll definitely be reading a lot more than just Posthumous for the near future.
